Standard PDF Document Info

A PDF can expose Title, Author, Subject, Keywords, Creator, Producer, CreationDate, and ModificationDate even when none of those details appear on a page. This tool lists the values it can read before removing the standard Info dictionary.

Catalog XMP metadata

Many authoring tools add a separate XMP metadata packet. The cleaner detects the catalog Metadata reference and removes that packet reference and object before saving the output. It does not claim to sanitize every proprietary metadata location.

Pages and visible content

The PDF is loaded and saved with a mature PDF library. Page objects are retained, and the result is reopened to confirm that its page count matches and supported target metadata no longer appears.

What remains outside the guarantee

Embedded files, annotations, comments, form values, JavaScript, prior revisions, object-level metadata, and application-specific data can still contain sensitive information. Encrypted or password-protected PDFs are rejected rather than silently altered.

PDF metadata FAQ

Can I remove the author from a PDF online?

Yes, for a non-encrypted PDF whose author is stored in the standard Document Info dictionary. The tool removes Author together with Title, Subject, Keywords, Creator, Producer, and standard dates, then verifies the result.

Does this tool upload my PDF?

No. Parsing, metadata removal, verification, and download preparation run in the browser. The application does not send the PDF, its filename, metadata, or cleaned output to a server.

Can it clean an encrypted or password-protected PDF?

No. Encrypted and password-protected PDFs are rejected with an explicit error because rewriting them without the correct security workflow could damage the document or create a misleading result.

Does removing PDF metadata delete comments or revision history?

No guarantee is made for comments, annotations, embedded files, form data, JavaScript, prior revisions, or proprietary structures. This release targets standard Document Info and the catalog XMP packet only.
